HAPPY STREETS CHENNAI
Happy Street is an initiative by “The Times of India” which encourages people to use non-motorized transport and to come out onto the streets to socialize every Sunday morning through a wide array of activities. The road selected for Happy Street is blocked for 3-4 hours in the morning on Sundays to turn it into a free space where anyone can walk, jog, cycle or just stroll around with a loved one, rediscover the simple pleasures of playing any game. The Times of India partners with various district authorities, administrations and state police to create a Happy Streets. This intiative aims to highlight problems typical of any city - cars usurping roads, shrinking space for pedestrians and cyclists and air pollution shooting up.
Today it happened in my neighbourhood “Mount road” . Yesterdays over night rain keeps me in sleep mode on bed even my alarm repeated few times. The poor lighting condition also delayed a bit for starting the event and it helped me to reach the venue on right time and at the junction blocked roads leads me on both sides where the vibrations yet to start.
When I crossed TATA AUTOMOBILES they displayed a centenary old car in front of their BENZ showroom.
Justin Timber lake and local DJ welcomed me with “Rock your body” The teens shake their bodies and suddenly the BLUES coming with lot of puppies.
In between badminton and table tennis players practice for their week end Olympics.
Adults play their favourite childhood games and Grandmas holding the mics with BEND IT LIKE BEKHEM pose for their grand children's height to keep them sing in comfortable bass .
The silent moment keep my ears open very well and my inner soul warned me that THUNDER is on the way, yes the local musician Aniruth
In the air . a huge gathering and sound makes me moved further .
Make U-TURN and my taste buds waked up by a hot smell of my favourite breakfast “pongal vadai”
No need to say it ends with a cup of filter coffee!
After that turned back on the other side of the road where our TRADITIONAL artists show their skills in playing drums ,dancing and painting .
